Savory Oatmeal Two Ways

I am one of those crazy people who tends to go for savory over sweet. This goes for the snacks I choose to eat in the evening when watching TV (crisps, popcorn, hummus and veggies before chocolate (though I do love chocolate) or candy) and extends to my breakfast choices. It especially this idea of savory breakfast that people tend to find odd, but I know there are fellow savory lovers out there, so here are two ways to eat porridge with a savory twist. Making porridge isn't difficult at all; just add some milk to oats and boil. To make this breakfast plant based I've opted for soy milk. I am sure it will taste just as yummy with almond milk or rice milk. Soy milk is what was in the fridge.

Balsamic Nut Porridge

This tasty breakfast really is super simple. All you have to do is prepare the oats and top your bowl with whichever nuts you prefer and a dash of balsamico. I've used a slightly thicker viscos balsamico that sits nicely on top instead of seeping in to the porridge. Regular balsamico will be just as tasty. I topped my porridge with almonds, pine nuts, crunchy fried onions, and balsamico.

Turmeric Porridge with Fried Banana

This version has a few more ingredients but really only takes 3 minutes extra to make. Whilst boiling the porridge you add some turmeric powder and ground (black) pepper to the milk. Meanwhile you heat some vegetable oil in a pan, slice the banana, and fry the pieces in the oil. Along with the fried banana I topped my bwol with almonds, crunchy fried onions, and balsamico. This turmeric porridge would go really well with some fresh cherry tomatoes and basil too. Cheese would go well too if you are vegetarian.
